It snowed very little down here the first night but it melted by 10am and I was able to ride outside no prob. It was a little chilly tho, I think 40 Degrees. I've been thinking a lot lately about moving down here for the few months..It snows very little but it gets cold. I can stand the cold, just not the trainer..Plus who wouldn't want to ride all the time with great views of red rocks and arches! It's beautiful.

Best ride.

I have to say that Emigration is the best ride. I have done that climb the last 2 days. It's the perfect pitch and never too steep. You can take it really easy and keep your heart rate low, or you can peg it hard and get the best workout ever. Great for motor pacing. When you get to the top, you can go down the other side and in 5 minutes you have another climb you can do that is also awesome. There's Lambs Canyon that is 1 mile up Parleys, and is also very fun. One of the smoothest roads I think. Super fast coming down, but keep in mind of cars. It's not a very busy road, there's only a few cars that go up it but coming around a corner sceamin and you'll meet the hood of a car if you're not carefull.

Latest and greatest isn't always sweeter..

I did a awesome ride with Mike Hanseen yesterday. Absolutely great weather. Wore shorts with jersey and arm warmers, on November 1st! This week looks to be insane weather so get out in it! mid 60's! I am on a sweet 1986 Schwinn Madison fixie that I got from Mike. I don't have a road bike so I ride this, even though I could ride the TT bike but I need to work on cadence. On our ride yesterday we were heading down some pretty steep hills and my cadence would hit 175 rpms, felt like my knees were going to explode. I thought I was going to get bucked off. The whole time I was just thinking don't try to coast or you will. We were making our way up this hill heading towards the mouth of Emigration to turn and go through the U and this guy came by and said sweet bike, I thought it was towards mike cause he's got the greatest and latest bike that is a BH with full Campy 11 with carbon wheels that weighs 14 lbs, but it was towards my bike! haha. Mike didn't like that much I don't think. I really like riding this bike, it's fun and you don't have to shift. I can put it on coast but I think fix will really help. Anyway, I'll stop blabbering.

Time Change.

It sure felt nice to have an extra hour of sleep last night. That's the only thing I really like about the time change. It's weird to look out the window at 5:30 pm and see nothing, cause it's dark. There is one other good thing about it, it gets light at 6:30 am. Good for early morning workouts, if you're brave enough to get out in the chill morning weather. The only guy I know that does that is Bart. Had a good time with my bro and sisters and my niece, who came down to go with us to go trick or treating. Well, it's time for me to go bench press an olympic size bar. A womping 45 lbs.. that's right, huge! Got up early this a.m. to take my sisters and bros to school. It's something I do just about every morning, I don't mind it cause I am a morning person and get up early anyways. I am heading to my first yoga session after I drop them off. Kinda nervous cause I can barely touch my knees. Something I really need to keep up with the stretching, It's always something I have a hard time with cause after a hard ride or long ride, I'm always tired so I don't want to stretch, I just want to sit and not move. I've lost 12 lbs over my time off the bike and time on the bike. I'm planning on being stronger and lighter than ever next year. I'm lifting weight a few times a week, starting to look like Jay Cutler..Minus 200 lbs. Okay that's a lie about looking like him but it would be cool. It rained 2 of the 3 days we were there. And cold. The first day was dry for the first 30 miles, than a down pour hit and the roads were like a river. It was nice and dry for Saturdays TT and crit. The last day was shortened from 103 miles to 18 miles. It was 40 degrees and rain in the valley but snowing on the mounting tops. I did start a new job (couple months ago) at Salt Lake City Bicycles. It's a pretty cool job. I pretty much stay in the basement and wrench on bikes, Can't complain cause than I don't have to deal with customers, I get to listen to whatever music and however loud I want, Pretty freakin' cool if you ask me. What else...Oh yeah, Like fox said- it's all in the head. I got the MRI done last week and nothing is wrong. All that work and money to be told "you're fine". But the High BP is what I have and something I can't get rid of I guess. Oh well what can ya do. What else, what else.......Bear Lake should be a ton of fun! 3 days of sweet racing! and great weather. My family has a cabin up there, so it makes it a little more fun. It is hard to be both. To be a great climber you need to light and thin, to be a TTist you can't be climber light and do super good in the time trials or can you? I have always struggled with my weight, I am a whopping 150 lbs. No matter how hard I try to get down the scale doesn't drop. I am afraid to try to drop weight now when my training is pretty tense and losing muscle or something. I have decided to focus on time trials and not completely on hill climbing. I have never really been that good on the climbs anyways...I have never won a hill climb, TTs I have. I am not going to cut out climbing, I am just not going to make it my main deal.

VOS

I can't believe it's already here. At least that's what I thought. So as you read in my previous post I had bad luck on my ride yesterday and had to call for a ride home. I got my fixie ready to ride this morning since I couldn't ride the tt bike with the rear wheel broken. I decided to go to Park City to ride with the air much better up there, so I put the bike on the fixie side since I would be riding the back roads into Kamas and wouldn't have to worry about stop signs or traffic. I parked at Deer Valley and started to get ready. It was very nice up there and much warmer. I started my ride heading down into park city and I get to the round about at the bottom of the hill and it is kinda busy with cars and people, I go to do something that I don't remember what I was going to do. But I went to stop pedalling and I get bucked off my bike like a bull and my bike goes flying into traffic as I hit the ground hard. I had a hard time standing up. People were going around me and my bike which is the middle of the road and didn't stop. Than a couple nice people stopped and got my bike for me and made sure I was OK. I rode back to the car very slow as I was in pain. My whole left side is sore and swollen, my bad knee is sore and my chest bones and ribs and back are sore. I am sure I will be feeling it tomorrow... at least I got to ride for 5 minutes.

Start to finsh and everything in between

Woke up at 7am to have breakfast for my 5 hour day, I was excited about the day because I was going to ride my TT bike and I was going to ride to Park City and ride for a bit up there and ride back down to Salt Lake. I want to try to stay out of the haze to save my lungs...The ride started good, headed up Emigration down to parleys and so forth. The air was a bit chilly in the pc but crystal clear and full of sunshine. Did a good loop up there, went around on the north side to the road that takes you into Kamas than came back on the south road into pc. Me and my riding buddy went over to see if Bad Ass coffee was still there, 'cause we were a little on the cold side and needed some coffee to warm up, but it wasn't there so we decided to go to Starbucks. The roads in park city are super packed with people because of Sundance crap. Some guy yelled at me and called me Lance cause I was on my tt bike, it's the same as the Astana bikes but better. What a weird driver, Drivers can get crazy sometimes. anyways, as we finished our coffees and headed back to parleys to cruz down with a tail wind, I was going 50 mph in the aero position when all the sudden I hit something and I have flat. Scarred me pretty bad, I had to check myself. Whatever I hit cut my tire in half and took a chunk of my sidewall on my rim. CRAP!! so I had to get picked up at Lambs Canyon. When I got back to the house I put a different tire on the rear wheel and finished on the trainer, I didn't want to go in the scmucky air. Lame way to finish a day. It's pretty crazy what a good start to the day can bring at the end.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year y'all. It's really easy to follow a good diet... I have been trying for a while to lose weight and I just have a hard time. I do good the first day or 2, then the 3rd day I sneak an extra snack in there cause I am hungry then the 4th day I am so hungry I find my self back in my old eating habits... I eat my fruits and veges but maybe not enough. I focus on eating carbs in the morning then meat and veges for lunch and dinner. Valley of the Sun is almost here and I would like to get down at least 10 lbs before then, maybe that's too much in 6 weeks time? I don't want to lose muscle or power. I think I just need to be patient, I am not good with that but that's probably what it takes. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Happy New Year

Trainer and sledding

The family got a seriously awesome computer for christmas, which I am writing from. The monitor is a 24" flat screen HD. Siiick! It's 6:30 am and I just ate a bowl of cereal and a pb&j sandwich to get ready for the 4 hour trainer ride... Me and the Fam have been going sledding a lot lately at the top of Emigration Canyon, It's a blast, If you're looking for a place to go have fun then go up there. I am thinking of snowshoeing a couple times a week, it seems like it would be a good workout. I was watching this show last week called Addicted to food. There are people that eat anywhere from 14,000-36,000 calories a day. The lady that ate 14,000 a day was like 400 lbs. It's crazy that Mike phelps eats 12,000 a day and is 100 lbs thanks to swimming. Crazy stuff.

Happy New Year,
Norm

2 1/2 pounders...

Things have been rolling pretty sweet lately. I am now 5 weeks in to my training now and it's going great, I do have to say that gym work is pretty awesome. I have graduated to 2 1/2 pounders on the bench press! I finally made it past the bar. Selling my Cannondale.I have been riding a sweet Schwinn fixie, those bikes will really help you work on cadence. I have been on the TT bike too, I am thinking of tweaking my position so I am lower in the front, I need to be more aero. I am getting the 09 Rocky Mountain with the 09 Dura Ace, I am super stoked! I've been doing yoga too, that s%@t works.

This and that.

I know it's been forever since I have posted a blog, but everything is still the same, Nothing new. I have been off the bike for 5 weeks now and am getting antsy to get back on and start riding again! I have lost 10 lbs and still counting. My goal is 125 lbs, That is the race weight I want to be at. I think it would be good for the climbs, I might suffer a little on the TT's but that is ok I think. If anyone is up for some EASY base miles hit me up and we will cruise, I start training Nov 1st. Work is starting to pick up now that the holidays are getting closer. It is going to be crazy this Christmas. The 2 weeks leading up to Christmas we will be running 24/7 Wow nuts. But not me, cause I got some training to do! I went to another body building show, that stuff is crazy cause it's crazy to think you can get the body that big. The guest bodybuilder was 5' 6" and 250 lbs of muscle! Nuts! his name is Branch Warren check it out.

Norm out.

Millcreek at 6 am.

Talk about cold. It was a good ride until I hit the top and started coming down. My fingers did get cold on the way up which is kinda weird cause you think they would stay warm at your hr goes up, but I guess not.I saw Bruce which is cool, Coming down. I have been on a pretty crazy diet for the last 6 weeks, I have gone from 146 lbs, down to 132 lbs. I want to be 130 by monday. My ultimate goal is 125 before the season starts up next year. The reason for going down you ask? cause I was too heavy at 146 and couldn't go up hill. And also to get ready for the State HC coming up next weekend! There's a ride on the 20th of September called I think I canyons, it's a ride of all 4 canyons. I think I will do it, it sounds fun.

P.S. No I haven't got my computer fixed. Anyways, my great airport luck just keeps rollin'. My flight from Quebec to toronto was 30 min. late. So I had to really rush to get my luggage and my bike case and hurry up and get through customs when I arrived. We'll it took only forever to get it, and good thing going through customs was a breeze cause I was really running late to catch my next flight. I made it and the flight was running behind. AAHHH!! this point I am freakin' out with late planes and crap. So I just kept my cool and sat and waited. The boarding came around and I arrive in denver late, because I left late. So I freaking ran to the train and road the train to my destination and ran to the desk to find out that I MISSED my flight. At this point all I could do is laugh. Ha ha. By the way this is the biggest airport I have ever seen. I got another ticket for a later flight which is suppose to leave at 5:07 pm. Well I went to double check on the boards to make sure it is still on time and it has been delayed till 5:44 pm. I am sitting here hoping that it doesn't delay any longer. I have been dealing with this now for 10 hours today and I am tired. I sure can't wait to get back.

Stage 4a and 4b

The TT didn't go that good. Got up at 6 am and got everything loaded in the car and went to breakfast. On our way to the race start my bike got loose and the rear wheel went over and smacked the back of the car. Good thing my fork was tight and it didn't go flying of the back. The bike is fine, a little scratched up but no broken parts. Got to the race and all the kids wanted autograph it was awesome. The race rolled out easy then It wasn't easy anymore. 40 miles in I need a couple of bottles, so I went back to the car and got bottles. As I was back at the car the peloton decided to go hard and I couldn't catch up. So I found couple of guys to ride the rest of the race with. I ran out of water with 40 miles to go and I got very dehydrated. It was very hot and humid. I would unzip my jersey to try to cool my body but it just got hotter. The wind was hot too. I haven't checked the results yet to see if I made the time cut. 20 miles in Brad had a heart rhythm problem and ended up not finishing.

Airports

My flight went off at 12:10 pm, so I got there at 9:30 am to give myself plenty of time just in case something went wrong. My flight went off as scheduled and so far so good. There was a storm in the area we were flying so the captain went around it adding another hour to our flight. So when Brad and I arrived to the Detroit airport we had 30 minutes to get to our next flight. So we ran way to the other side of the airport and made it with 5 minutes tell we board to find out our flight is delayed 1 hour. So we were trying to find the phone number to the guys that were picking us up to tell them we were running late. After about 30 minutes we finally find it. So 8:00 roles around and they say the flight is delayed tell 9:44. Now me and brad are getting frustrated and mad. So we go get food and come back to find out the flight is cancelled. There was nasty weather that kept the flight from going. So we slept at the airport and I think I got 3 hours of sleep that night. The flight the next morning went off at 8:50 am and that went smooth and we arrived in Quebec just fine. Got through security and we went to get our luggage (this is where is gets very bad) to find out our luggage wasn't there. The bags weren't on the flight, no ones bags were. So we had to fill out some paper that had the address we were staying at so they could deliver it when it got there. We'll as I am typing the team manager is on the way to pick our luggage up. So I have gotten 4 hours of sleep in 36 hours and the race starts in 12 hours and I still have to put my bike together.

Beauce

Well it's here, Tour De Beauce. I rode up Suncrest, down to American Fork, then rode up as far as I can before hitting the snow. The snow is at 15.5 miles, a couple of more weeks and it should be clear. So after American Fork I got a Coke and bar at the cheveron and made my way back up the south side of Suncrest. After the sweet descent down Suncrest it was nice, flat and headwind all the way back home. So that was my great ride. Then last night I went longboarding for 4hrs. That is such a blast. If you know where to ride through the U of U then it's really fun. I rode down South Temple for the first time and I cruised all the way down to State Street doing about 30 mph and carving the rode. Too much fun.

Stuff.

Went over to fox's place last night, he bought some bike junk from me. He has some Australian liquorice that is way good, a lot better then American liquorice. I am going to ride American Fork tomorrow and see how far up the canyon I can make it, If I can make it to the top I am going down to Provo Canyon and back up. That makes for a good day. 7 hrs with hopefully 4 climbs, Yeaahh! I haven't been in the mood to race much local stuff lately, I don't know why. I have only done 2 uca races and a few RMRs and TT's. I guess my mind has been on Tour De Beauce, that's all I have been training for. Maybe after that race I will race more local stuff. My favorite race of the year is High uintas and it's 5 days of Beauce, hopefully I can recover for it in time. I wonder if Fox has more liqourice.

Favorite Ride.

I rode to East Canyon today and that is my favorite ride. What's up with that? it was 62 degrees when I was riding and now it is in the 30's and snowing in just a couple of hours. The wind was freakin' brutal. I went north and it took me twice as long to get back.

I am on my last week of base training. Ever since Christmas ended work has been sweet. I have been getting off at noon everyday. So I get the whole afternoon to train and lift. Yesterday was my first day back on the bike in 2 weeks. Like every other winter I got tendinitis again. I went out for 90 minutes and it was a tad bit achy after but that's ok. Just easy rides for a little bit to let it heal before I get into it. I have been really wanting to go to St. George for a week, just no one to go with. So if anyone is going and would like a little company let me know I would like to go. I didn't stay up for New Years last night. I made it to 10:00pm before falling asleep on the couch while watching MythBusters. I did wake up at midnight to the noise of my phone ringing to text messages saying happy new year.

Something Different

I have been thinking lately of doing a triathlon. Or even a duathlon. I can't swim very well or run, but I think I could make it up on the TT. I have been thinking of even switching to running, I kinda enjoy it. Flight, food, hotel...
I haven't done much besides work. I haven't ridden the bike since the State Hillclimb and it feels good. I have been eating alot gaining some weight. And finished with the climbs last. I actually liked it this way better because I got the west road over with sooner. I knew that road was going to be busy and I had 3 semi-trucks come within less then a foot of me.Seriously. And what makes it worse is that they have the whole other lane too go around. Those of you who have ridden that road knows what I am talking about. I think they should name that road- Asshole road. The truck drivers really don't care. And it's freakin' annoying. Ahhh that makes me feel better letting that out. You know what is really cool? Is that bike path up Provo Canyon. That is so much better than the canyon road. My ride took 30 minutes longer, cause I took Wasatch back. So a total of 8.5 hrs, 130 miles.

Long Day.

Started at 5:30am for a long day of riding. In prep for LOTOJA. I started from my house headed south to Suncrest. Climbed up Sucrest then down to American Fork. Up American Fork down Sundance then headed into Provo. crusied back through town and it brought me back at the base of American Fork. I headed back to Draper then shot out west to the Kennecot. Headed along the far west road to Magna. Then cruised by the RMR then home. It ended up being 8 hrs of riding. It was a fun ride. I really like riding up American Fork. I was suprised all day not one truck honked, gave me the finger or black smoked it.

Nutrition.

So nutrition is just as important as training. It is long, hard and windy. The race started out good. It was fast from the start and everyone was fighting for the front. There was a few wheel rubs and touching elbows. Once storm mountain rolled around I did the same thing I did the last 4 yrs, set a hard pace. It is only natural to light up the storm on storm mountain, right? I was feeling good. Once up and over the top there Jeff, Nate Page and I worked together and we were going good. But once we hit the S-curve I started to hurt and I tried my best to stay with them but couldn't. They were just flying. Then something really went weird with my body, when I got to the flat section I got super dizzy and was about to fall over. I don't know what happened but it was weird. The group behind caught me and just flew pass me like I was a snell. I was just to dizzy to try to get on. So the group behind them caught me soon and I was able to stay with them and recover and rest. Where it starts to go up again at the restaurant lodge I started to feel good again and went to the front and set a hard pace and ended up getting away. I caught one or two guys from the group in front of us and ended up finishing 9Th or 10Th. Congrats to Jeff.

I am off to Nationals in 4 days, Yeah!

Work and Ice Cream.

The last several days have been really hectic for me. I have been working 10hrs a day and riding at 6 am before going to work. Sometimes I will do a lunch ride, only if it is an easy day cause it gets hot fast. Why am I working so much? because I am going to Nationals for the TT in 3 weeks and I need some money to get there. Hopefully all this work over the next 2 weeks will be worth it at the end. Today was a painful day. I went to the dentist and got my wisdom teeth pulled. I am sore. Thank goodness for pain killers. I am eating lots of ice cream right now, since that is the only thing I really can eat for a little while. When you have 2 pros show up you know it is going to be hard. The Road Race was really fast and hard. A group got away before the climb and they were going fast. when the climb started Jeff and Burke went to front and rode away from everyone. I held there wheel for probably 10 seconds before getting dropped. On the downhill I got caught by a group of 10 guys and we were cruising in to town at like 38 mph all the way. It is crazy that Jeff, Burke and Sandy gained 8 minutes on us. I ended up getting 14th in the RR. The TT went really good. I was warming up on the trainer and just felt like crap, couldn't get my heart rate up. Once I got out on the road I felt alot better and ended up getting 2nd, 18 seconds down from Jeff. The crit was probably the hardest crit I have done. From the start it was full gas. That all I have to say about the crit. Very hard. High Uintas is the funnest race of the year I think.

TT

Tomorrow is going to be a very tough TT, alot of fast guys are going to to be there. I knew I wasn't going to last very long, because I didn't feel it riding out. I have been doing good the last couple of RMR staying near the front of the pack and chasing breaks but I just didn't have the rhythm or power last night. I think the ride I did on Saturday killed it out of me. I felt flat, nadda, nothing. Last night my back started to hurt before going to bed and it was hard to move, so I had to sleep on my back. I got up this morning and it hurt like hell, I couldn't move. I don't know what it is from, but I can't move very fast or lift anything. Hopefully it goes away before this weekend.

Part 2.

Today's ride went really good. I met up with Nate Page at 7:00am at 9th and 9th. We rolled out along 9th east all the way to 9400 south, then headed up to Little Cottonwood. We didn't push it too hard, knowing that it was going to be a long day. On the descent we saw Saul Raisin, that was cool. I guess he is living here for the summer and is dating Dave Zabriskies sister. Then we headed over to Big Cottonwood and that went smooth. Good pace and it went by fast. I was hoping that the store was open up there cause I needed a drink, it wasn't open. So I went to the seven eleven. Nate took off after Big Cottonwood. He was putting the hurt on me. He is going to rock the climbs this year. Then I headed over to Millcreek Canyon and I was starting to definitely feel the legs hurting now so I just climbed slow and it was still painful. So I kept telling myself after this canyon I will get a huge coke and a bagel at Einsteins and that seemed to help. The upper part of Millcreek is good, except for a little bit of stuff on the road and water from snow. So then after the climb I got some food and a drink and just sat there for a while. That really helped me to get some energy for Emigration. I got to Emigration and the wind picked up which was nice cause it was a tail wind up the canyon and I really needed that. I didn't push it to hard climbing cause the legs were fried and it was really hot. I got to the top and saw Bart on the mountain bike, I guess he did some good trails up there. So I cruised down with him until his turn to his house. After he left I was battling a headwind that was strong but I didn't care cause it was going downhill and I was dazed out. So I made it home safe and sound and tired. I rode with Spencer, Sly Dizzle and Bart. Me, Spencer , Fox and Bart were going to just ride to East Canyon and back but fox decided we should do the Morgan Loop. Bart turned around at East Canyon, he has a little girl to play with. Fox took alot of funny pictures on our ride. He has some posted on his blog. We had a freaking head wind most of the way then once we got down the canyon and started heading south we were riding like 30mph it was crazy. We were descending down into East Canyon and fox had to be going into this corner going like 4o mph and he had to tri pod it, it was the funniest thing to see.I thought he was going to crash but he's got skills. We ended up doing 104 miles. That is a really fun ride to do. If you haven't done it yet, do it. Here's fox jumping on someones tramp in Morgan.

Racing.

I only made it 2 laps at Antelope Island before I had to stop. With these wheels my bike comes in at 15 lbs. I also got a new saddle, it is the Specialized Toupe. There was a break that got away early and gained like 3.5 minutes. So every time we hit the downhill we were going like 5 mph, nobody wanted to chase cause they had team mates up the road. Then we would peg the rolling flats and the tough hill. With about 4 to go on the hilly flat section after the downhill hill they pegged it fast and like always I am on the back. So gaps started opening and I couldn't get up there so I got dropped and had to ride 3-4 laps by myself. I really need to learn to stay near the front because this always happens. I was feeling really good for the race just wasn't smart. Congrats to Mark, Dave and Jeff.

Weekend of Riding.

Crazy and hard is what I would call the riding I did on the weekend. Saturday I met up with the Porcupine/Specialized guys. We rolled over to Emigration and pegged it like a freaking race. The pace was really fast and hard, I was thinking wow this is going to be a fast time up. we got to the top and it was 23 minutes. that's the fastest I have done it. Then we did Big Mountain. D.H. pegged it like a climbing fool. After Big M. we went and did Big Cottonwood. Again D.H. climbed it like a monkey. I didn't see him or sleevie for the rest of the climb. I got to the flat section about halfway through and I bonked hard, I had to stop at donut falls area and get off and lay there and eat food and Wait for the guys to come down. Sundays ride was alright. I went and did Butterfield Canyon. That climb hurts really bad, it was super rocky to towards the top. After we got to the top we were coming coming down and my friend hits a rock and pinch flats, so he puts a tube in and the valve is to short, so we sit there for a while and I ended up taking a tube out of my wheel because it is a long valve and give to him. so we both have flats and one co2 cartridge, so we are both descending down the canyon with 40 lbs of pressure in our tires, it was sketchy. Then we get to the bottom and his tire blows up cause he tore the sidewall from the rock and the tube was sticking out. So we had to get picked up.

Storman' News.

I thought I would write something, I haven't written anything for a while, so here it is. I have been training more now since I am feeling ALOT better, I still have a couple of things wrong but training is a go. I will finally be able to race RMR this weekend if the snow didn't ruin it. I hope not because I want to race. I have been using an SRM lately and that is a handy cool tool, it is cool to see some numbers, especially on the climbs. There is alot to look at when riding, watts, heart rate, cadence, speed, man it is cool at the end of a ride to sit down and look at it all. On to some other Storman news. A week ago I got a truck, Toyota 4 Runner, and is it sweet. It is the first vehicle I have ever owned. Owning your own car is sweet because it is like a whole nother freedom. You get to go whenever you want and don't have to ask to borrow the car. Now I can't spend all my hard earned money on my bikes anymore. I now have to pay for stuff like insurance, gas and if there is any car problems. Talk about car problems, I woke up this morning at 7:30am to take my brother to school and I was backing out of the driveway and something didn't feel right so I got out and my rear tire was flat. crap. So 2 1/2 hrs and 4 cups of coffee later it was fixed. I hope that doesn't happen again.
We'll thats it for Storman' News.

Good and Bad

Well the last month I have had bad things happen and good things happen, Mostly bad. I got sick before VOS, but had a good TT, then dropped out of the RR. Then I got sick again and had to go to the doctors to see what it was, it wasn't good. So I got some meds and started to feel better. So I was able to finally ride after 2 weeks of very little riding. So I started to train and felt really good. Yesterday I wake up and what do i have? A freaking cold, just before RMR. I can't ride right now cause I have no energy. My legs were shot and every time I rode I couldn't breath, it felt like I had 1 lung. I go to a doctors tomorrow to see what is up with me, hopefully everything is ok. Ever since the TT in VOS I have been going down hill with the sickness. Being sick makes everything hard, I hate it. The weather has been weird lately, to bad I don't ski or snowboard or else I would be shredding it (not really I suck). I am working at Guthrie's in Sugarhouse, it is nice, all I do is build bikes, I don't help customers or repair bikes, just build. We have people that are on the floor to help customers and we have a guy that does the repairs and I build the bikes, yeah.
Later.

VOS race

What a race, hard, hot and FAST. The first day went pretty good, I ended up getting 3rd place, 24 seconds off of 1st. The TT course was pretty windy and hard. During the TT my heart rate averaged was 193 and my max was 198. The 2nd day I DNF. This road race was the hardest one I have done, it was sooo windy and fast. Guys were shooting off the back the first half lap. I got a cold a week before VOS and started taking some medicine and it helped I started to feel better before the race. I was still a little sick for the TT and the really hard effort I did made my cold worse over night and so I wasn't feeling good for the road race. Some how I always get sick before this race.
Congrats to Nate Page for his 3rd overall.

VOS

VOS is almost here and I am getting excited about it. I didn't do it last year because of the knee injury but this year almost the same deal happened but I was able to do somethings right away to heal it faster. I have been riding the Trek TTX alot, the position is starting to feel really good and powerful, lets just hope the rider is. My training has been off the hook the month of January and so far February, I have been doing about 20+hrs a week, trying to get ready for this race. I am racing for Canyon Bicycles and I might work there to after VOS. Mike Hanseen is a pretty cool guy and he is always super nice. I am getting tired of all of these flat rides I really can't wait until the canyons are clear and warmer to ride up. Last year I got it in Febuary and had to take 3 weeks off the bike, everytime I would try to ride it would hurt about 20 minutes into my ride last year. its in a different spot so hopefully it isn't going to last as long. I have been icing it and taking ibuprofen and I wear a brace for it so hopefully that helps it fast and i can start training hard soon. I want to ride the bike but can't get the energy to get ready, also can't get in the mindset to ride outside in the cold. Is it ok to ride if you have a cold? will I lose fitness if I don't ride? can I go to the gym? these are questions that I ask myself all day. Any advise to help get this cold to go away faster will help. I rode with Mike Sohm thursday morning and it was 14 degrees out, my breath froze my hair by my neck. Mike and I sat at Raw Bean and had some coffee to warm us up, we stayed there for 20 minutes before we left to go home. Mike is a really cool guy to ride with, he is a funny kid. I really don't like the trainer but it has to be ridden. I have been riding the trainer a couple times a week. Also riding my coach's veletron 2-3 times a week. It is sometimes intimidating because alot of those guys are HUGE and then there's me 5' 6" 135lbs... yeah you get the picture.

Well time for the trainer.

Thanksgiving Day

I had a good Thanksgiving, I had some good food, but no pie (to many calories). I did a thanksgiving morning ride with Jeff Louder and Terry Mcginnis, we went out for about 3hrs. The clouds were looking scary, we had a STRONG south wind, so we decided to go south, head wind first good tail wind back. NO that is not how it went, the wind changed and we had head winds both ways DOH! and it got cold. We didn't get hit by any storms which is good.

Moab

I went to moab on Monday morning to ride and it was AWESOME!, I think that was my 2nd time being to moab my whole life (21yrs) crazy huh?. Monday I did a ride into Arches National Park and that was cool, seeing all of the tall rocks and arches. It was like 70 degrees when I rode and it was nice. Then today I did a easy ride into Potash wich is a flat ride. You ride next to the Colorado River and next to these HUGE cliffs that people rock climb on. I put alot of time on the saddle the last 3 days, I did like 11hrs. The weather has been so nice I am trying to do as much riding as I can while it is nice. I came back from moab today it was just an over nighter, and it was kind of a bummer to come back to colder weather.

See Ya

Good Days.

Today was a good day of riding, it was warm and not much of a wind. I got out in the morning for 3hrs with my brothers wrestling coach. On the way back from NSL I saw Nate Page and road with him for a while, He's a cool person to ride with. then a couple of hours after my ride I went to the coach's house and did some sprint work. I actually like the sprint work that I am doing, i am seeing improvment everytime I go, which is motivation. Well my weight is now down to 135lbs and I was 150lbs during racing this year. I think I am going to hold that weight for the winter and next year. Work has really slowed down and it is boring. Alot of the time we play playstation and throw darts. We do have lots of bikes to build, that will keep us busy through the winter. It is a bummer I have to work on saturdays and I would rather be riding my bike, especially when it is nice out and I could do 6hrs.
Laters all.

The South

So I went to virgin this last weekend, it was awesome. I got alot of training in, I think like 10 hrs in 2 days. That ride in to Mesquite is pretty cool, it seems like the climb goes on forever. The new bike feels good, it responds well. I used a SRM while I was down there and those things are really cool to use. I did some bunny hunting, got one. It is hard when they are running and you are trying to shoot them with shotguns. I think that Zions is the coolest place to go, It is fun to ride the bikes up there.
Well more boring news later.

Bikes.

I got a new bike last week and it is sweeeet. It is a Trek Madone 5.9 SL. I am selling my cannondale which is a bummer, I really like that bike. I have done about 4 rides on the trek and so far it rides like a dream. It is an all carbon frame with full Dura Ace 10 spd, and Bontrager race x lite wheels. It weights in at 16 sweet lbs. So throw some tubulars on there and we are looking at 15.5 or less lbs, yaaaaaaaaa. I have been drinking alot of coffee lately at this new coffee shop called Raw Bean 600 South West Temple. If you haven't tried it yet you should it is awesome stuff. Work has been off the wall crazy lots of repairs with not alot of employees. LOTOJA is comming up I am getting excited for it. What a hard race 206 miles 9 hrs WOW nuts. Training has been good I did 100 miles today a lap around the valley including climbing Butterfield. What a cool climb way hard and it is steep it goes up fast. About halfway through you hit a 20% Gradient and it hurts BAD my arms get sore from pulling so hard on the bars. It is good training for lotoja and Sanpete wich I think I am going to do.

Thats it for now more later.

High Uintas

What a tough weekend, the road race was tough couldn't get the legs going attacked a couple of times to try to get away and get the legs to open up but nothing. So when the climb came Chocolate Factory went to the front and layed it down they set a hard pace and dropped everyone. 10 of us regrouped on the downhill and we stayed away to the finish line and finished about 50 seconds ahead of the field. The next morning was the TT and I was feeling better I got a really good warm up for it and I borrowed a Cervelo P3 for the TT and I ended winning by 5 seconds over Sandy so I was excited and that also put me in the lead. So going into the Criterium I had a 6 second lead over Jesse so I sat on his wheel the whole crit and I didn't notice that the guy in 4th got away and he was 36 seconds down and so at the end he won the crit and pulled into 2nd. So I ended up winning the G.C. by 5 second over Chocolate Factory and 6 seconds over Jesse. What a crazy weekend.

1st Place Pro/1/2 High Uintas Classic

DMV

Wednesday Night DMV and the KILLER HILL!

I love this course it is so hard. Well I got dropped at the start for I think like 3 laps before I was able to catch back on I thought I wasn't going to beable to catch on but they slowed down and I kept driving hard to get on. So once I got back I was able to breath for a little then attacks started to go and It was fast and we hit the hill and I get dropped then I catch on then we hit the hill again then I get dropped I think man this sucks. So after a couple more laps me, Dave and Tony get in a break together and we start working really well together and on the last lap Dave attacks and I couldn't go and Tony goes with him and Dave-1st Tony-2nd me-3rd. Awesome job to Dave and Tony.

Utah State Road Race

State Road Race

What a great course you couldn't ask for a better one it has a little of everything up hill, flat and some down hill. It was pretty fast from the start people tried to go but nothing could get away a few guys would get away but not very long. I tried to play this one smart and not do any stupid things like I always do. I sat pretty close to Dave and Ryan knowing they would probably be the ones to watch. Each lap the field would get a little smaller because of the hill, I swear that the hill gets steeper each lap it hurts sooooo bad I kept thinking to my self I am not going to beable to make it up this time. Well with attacks trying to go and nothing really getting away one finally was able to get away with 2 laps to go. It was a group of 5 and I watched it slowly get away and I was thinking there goes the winning move, but once the hill came again they were still insight so Nate and I drilled it up the hill and I looked back to see what was going on and Dave, Ryan, Nate, Anthony and me were still together going up the hill so I decided to punch it one more time and I did and got away for a little while trying to catch the break. The group with Ryan, Dave, Nate and Anthony caught me so we started to work together except for Ryan and Dave since they had teammates in the break, we caught the break except for Aaron and Sandy they took of so we kept working together to try and bring back Aaron and Sandy they weren't very far ahead and so I was thinking I am going to punch it hard up this hill to try and bring them back. I went hard up the hill and about 3/4 of the way up I started to cramp I couldn't sit down or it would start to hurt but I could stand up and soft pedal. Ryan and Dave got ahead and once I got to the top of the hill I started to feel better so I jammed it to catch up to Ryan, Dave, Sandy and Aaron. I caught up with them and I started to work with them to try to stay away from the group behined wich was Nate, Anthony and Kirk. Once we got about 4 k from the finish my cramp started to come back and so I had to soft pedal a little and I just sat at the back trying to get rid of the cramp. Once I got rid of the cramp I just stayed at the back and let Aaron Sandy do the work for Ryan and Dave. I needed to play this right so that I can try and get a top 3 placing so with 2 k to go Aaron started to lead out and he pulled off then Sandy started to go hard and I thought okay stay on and you can get 3rd so Sandy pulled of and Ryan and Dave just started flying to the finish, I passed Sandy for 3rd. I was stoked to have gotten 3rd I was thinking, I think I might have finally played it right.

Thanksgivivng Point.

Crashed out of Thanksgiving Point 3 laps in
